FAQ

  1. What is the "Telegram™ Messenger" add-on and how can I use it?

Telegram™ Messenger loads the official Telegram web messenger inside a toolbar panel (Firefox version) or within a sandboxed window (Chrome version). Hence you can check all your posts without the need to switch tab to Telegram web. It is recommended to close all the Telegram web pages/tabs and use the panel view or window view for checking messages as Telegram recommends to have a single open instance of Telegram web at a time.

Please note that the UI of Telegram web messenger is designed and maintained by Telegram team. This extension only provides an easier way to have access to your Telegram web service. You need to read and agree with Privacy & Terms in order to use this service.

  2. What is the meaning of the badge icon?

In Firefox version, the badge notification displays the number of unread and not muted conversations you have. For instance if you have two conversations with 10 unread posts, you will see 2 in the badge notification.

  3. How can I activate the Telegram web after first installation

Firefox users: You will notice a new toolbar button is appended to your browser. Click the button to open the panel. If this is the first time you are using Telegram in this browser, a login form is shown. You need to enter the phone number that is attached to your telegram desktop in the form and submit this form. Once the form is submitted, you will receive a PIN code in your Telegram mobile application. Enter the PIN code to the box and you are done. After a few seconds all your messages will be sync with your phone. Note that desktop and phone version of telegram are always synced. You will receive messages in both interfaces.

Chrome users: After installation, open chrome://apps/ in a browser tab and select "Telegram Messenger". A new sandboxed window will pop up. If this is the first time, you are opening the window, login in window appears. Enter your phone number that is registered with Telegram account and wait for the PIN code to appear in your cellphone. Enter the PIN code in the form and you are done.

  4. Is it possible to change the location of the toolbar button in the Firefox version?

Yes, please read this blog post: a Comprehensive Guide to Firefox Customization.

  5. What's new in this version?

    Please check the Logs section.

  6. For some reason, the toolbar badge is not updating, how can I fix this?

Open the toolbar panel. In the left side, there is a refresh button. Press the button and wait for a few seconds for the badge to calculate the number of unread conversations.

  7. What are the options I have in the toolbar panel?

You can open Telegram web, FAQs page or the bug reporter directly from the panel. Also you can refresh the panel. If you need a new feature post a bug report and I'll try to add this it in the next release.

  8. If I open a Telegram web in a tab, the opened one in the panel goes to idle mode. Do I need to re-enable it after I am closing the one loaded on the tab?

Yes, currently you need to open the panel and enable Telegram in the panel view. It is recommended to always use the panel view to access your telegram instead of opening it in a new browser tab.

  9. Can I send voice messages from the panel view?

In Chrome version, there is no settings and voice messages are supported. You can send voice messages once the mic is activated. In Firefox version, make sure "audio permission" box is checked in the left panel before requesting mic recording.
