The "ePub Reader" extension is meant to eliminate the need for native ePub readers. This browser extension opens *.epub and *.opf files right in your browser tab. After installation, you will get a new context menu entry in the browser context menu when a link with *.epub or *.opf extension is selected. Clicking on this menu results on opening the selected link in a new browser tab. This extension uses the "Reader View" style for displaying the ePub content. Basically, the user has access to all the options that normally get when using a reader view. The 3 default color schemes (light, dark and sepia) are supported. Font family can be altered and font-size is adjustable. All these options are persistent across browser restarts. Furthermore, this extension saves the current ePub address as well as the current page number in the address bar so that the page's URL is bookmarkable.

Features

FAQs

  1. What is the "ePub Reader" add-on and how can I use it?

The ePub Reader extension is an alternative to the desktop ePub readers. This reader can parse and display online ePub links in a user-friendly environment. The UI is based on the "Reader View" implementation to reduce distraction and provide a convenient view for long reads. The extension offers three color schemes and font selection tools. The user even can change the font-size and line-height right from the view. If more customization is required, the options page can be used to inject custom CSS rules. This extension displays the table of contents in the bottom left side of the view and arrow keys can be used to change pages.

  2. What's new in this version?

    Please check the Logs section.

  3. Can I use the scroll-bar to navigate to the next or previous pages

At this moment this is not doable. Note that in this extension to have high performance, only a single page is parsed and being displayed. The arrow keys can be used to move to the next or previous pages. If you need to jump to the start of a chapter, use the "Table of Contents" menu in the left bottom side of the view. The user also can use the visual navigation buttons to move the previous and the next pages.

  4. Can I close the current view and read this eBook later?

This extension keeps the current eBook address as well as its current page number in the address bar URL, so simply press the star button to bookmark the page. Next time this bookmark is opened, the extension automatically fetches the eBook from your browser cache and opens the current page.

  5. Why do I get a permission box each time I try to open an ePub with this extension?

By default this extension does not have permission to read any external resource. Each time a new ePub is requested, the extension needs to grant permission to download the eBook first.
