The "Messenger for Telegram™" extension enables you to check your new Telegram messages from within a sandboxed window without the need to switch tabs. Also, when you are logged in, the toolbar badge displays the number of unread posts (conversations), and upon receiving a new message, you will get a desktop notification as well. This extension activates the web view when it is possible and opens a new window when there is no active one. It also uses a non-persistent background script to make sure the extension is not using any resources when not needed. .

FAQs

  1. What is the "Messenger for Telegram™" add-on and how can I use it?

This extension loads the official Telegram web messenger inside a sandboxed window. Hence you can check all your posts without the need to switch the tab to another browser tab. Also, when the Telegram window is hidden, you can bring it into the front with a single click. It is recommended to close all the Telegram web pages and reload them after this extension is installed. This extension also displays the number of unread messages inside the badge text when the interface is open.

Please note that the UI of Telegram web messenger is designed and maintained by Telegram's official developers. This extension only provides an easier way to have access to this service. Make sure to read and agree with Privacy & Terms before using this service.

  2. What is the meaning of the badge icon?

This number indicates the total number of unread conversions you have. The extension does not count muted or hidden conversions. For instance, if you have two not-muted conversations with ten unread posts, you will see the number "2" in the badge area.

  3. How can I activate the Telegram web after first installation

After installation, a new toolbar button is added to the extensions area of the toolbar. You can optionally pin it into the toolbar area. Click on the newly added icon and wait for the extension to open Telegram's sandboxed window. If this is the first time you are using the telegram on your browser, the login window appears. Enter your phone number that is registered with your Telegram account and wait for the PIN code to appear on your cellphone or your other active Telegram clients. Enter the PIN code in the form, and you are done.

  4. What's new in this version?

    Please check the Logs section.

  5. [deprecated] For some reason, the toolbar badge is not updating, how can I fix this?

Open the toolbar panel. On the left side, there is a refresh button. Press the button and wait for a few seconds for the badge to calculate the number of unread conversations.

  6. [deprecated] If I open a Telegram web in a browser tab, the opened one in the panel goes to idle mode. Do I need to re-enable it after I am closing the one loaded on the tab?

Yes, currently you need to open the panel and enable Telegram in the panel view. It is recommended to always use the panel view to access your telegram instead of opening it in a new browser tab.

  7. [deprecated] Can I send voice messages from the panel view?

In the Chrome version, there are no settings, and voice messages are supported. You can send voice messages once the mic is activated. In the Firefox version, make sure the "audio permission" box is checked in the left panel before requesting mic recording.
