What is HD Player?
HD Player is a lightweight extension to change the HTML5 or Flash player's quality to high definition (HD) or the highest available quality as soon as the player loads in a page. Exactly similar to change the quality through the gear icon beneath each player.
Is it possible to set lower HD quality instead of the highest available one?
Yes, from version 0.1.5 it is possible to set lower HD quality from addon's option page. Also note that if you manually select lower HD quality, the extension wont change the quality back to the highest one anymore (only and only if an HD quality is selected, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, or 2160p).
I would like the extension to play the highest available quality no matter if an HD quality is chosen by player. Is it possible?
Yes, though you need to adjust options for this. Open the option page and uncheck "Do not increase video quality if an HD quality (720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p, ...) is selected by user or YouTube player". Now refresh the YouTube page and let the extension force the highest quality.
How to install the extension from source (XPI file)?
Simply drag and drop it into an open Firefox window and give it permission to install. There’s no need to restart the navigator in order for the changes to take effect
